CHIRON INTEGRATED HEALTHCARE APPROACH FOR HOME, MOBILE AND CLINICAL ENVIRONMENTS

The Industrial Systems Institute is a public research institute, functioning under the supervision of the General Secretariat of Research and Technology (G.S.R.T) of the Greek Ministry of Development. I.S.I was founded in Patras, Western Greece on June 1998. On May 2003 it was included in the Research Center “Athena”. Its scope includes the active participation and substantial contribution to high-technology sectors, which relate to integrated industrial systems, with the objective of increasing the competitiveness of the Greek industry, through application of state-of-the-art technologies. It collaborates closely with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the University of Patras. Furthermore, I.S.I. has established strong collaborations with the industrial sector in Greece and has been involved in projects funded by the European Commission and the Greek Secretariat of Research and Technology through large-scale projects as well as by the Greek industry itself through bilateral agreements.
ISI’s main research activities are in the following areas:
Networks and Network Systems: Wireless and mobile communications, Ad-hoc networking, Internet technologies, Real Time Networking Technologies for the industrial environment, Sensor networks Integration and internetworking of industrial networks and the Intranet/Internet, Architecture of network systems, Network security.
Networked Embedded Systems: Real Time Inter-working and Cooperation of embedded systems, Automotive Communication Networks, Networked Embedded Systems, Modelling of networked real time control systems as hybrid systems incorporating continuous and discrete dynamics, Security, Safety and dependability, Fault isolation and network reconfiguration (to minimize losses), Robustness against communication faults, Overcoming node failures (system dependability), Surveillance systems
Embedded Systems & Processes: Embedded System Architecture and Design, Modelling, simulation and validation of industrial automation systems, Behaviour based controllers for Intelligent Machines

The main areas of research activities of I.S.I related to the CHIRON project are: ontology engineering, , semantic enrichment of networked embedded systems, generic, according to standards, interfaces to access data and services enriched with semantics, specialized middleware for applications integration for Windows, Mobile Windows and Linux, wearable wireless body area networks based on 802.15.4 and Bluetooth, cross layer techniques, information security, network security, services security.
